The amendment to Section 22500 of the Vehicle Code is putting a stop to parking in front of crosswalks to improve pedestrian safety. You can no longer park within 20 feet of a crosswalk, or 15 feet if there's a curb extension. Local authorities will issue warnings until January 1, 2025, but fines will be handed out after that if you're caught in these restricted zones. Parking a bike or unloading a commercial vehicle might be allowed if the area is marked properly. So, before you park near a crosswalk, make sure it’s not a ticket zone—otherwise, you might find yourself paying for that prime spot!
