A new bill is focused on enhancing privacy protections by adding safeguards to connected vehicle services under Division 12 of the Vehicle Code (Chapter 6, Section 28200). By July 2025, manufacturers will be required to make it easier for drivers to disconnect any unauthorized tracking, and by 2026, even older cars with location tracking will be included. Plus, drivers will have an easy-to-use button inside the vehicle to disable location tracking, no need for apps or passwords. In addition, starting January 1, 2028, vehicles will alert drivers if someone is tracking their location through the car’s connected features. This initiative is designed to keep your vehicle from being used for spying and put you in control of your privacy.
